The Main FC, is a heiress in hiding. She is on the “run” from her family and her past. The Main MC, is a single dad who works as a firefighter. Sadly, when he finds out that she is on the run he pushes her away. Which is understandable, but still sad.

Spoiler. After she finds out she is pregnant, which isn’t until like 80% through the book, there isn’t much that happens. Other than him being upset about the lies there isn’t much in the way of conflict in this story. It is a HEA which is nice.

The stone didn’t chose violence, it choose change. That’s the first thought that came to my head after reading this book. I’m so glad that there wasn’t so many fight scenes in this one. It let the emotional build and the despare that the main FMC was feeling build. She needed to break the cage that everyone else was being pushed into. I would recommend this book to those of us who don’t fit boxes and/or checklists. Those who have been made feel both too much and not enough at the same time. Thankyou for writing something so beautiful, painful, real and raw.

Alright, I have mixed feeling about this book, Ex and the City by Clements. I went into this book with high hopes for this second-chance romances and while I got that I was kind of lost with some of the background with some of the side characters. The premise of this book had a lot going for it but I felt that as the story went on more parts were rushed. Several loose ends were left untighten by the end of the book. It took me a few days to read this book and I untimately felt deeply unsatified with the lack of emotional build-up and the way the book ended. I am going to go back and read the others and then I’ll re read this one to see if I enjoy it a little more.

Over all this is a very good book. Though I had some issues with the pacing of this book, I’m very happy with how the main MMC (Daryn), has been treating the FMC (Shannon). I don’t like that she was ran out of her hometown because she had little magic. Which is another thing, everyone in the book keeps stating that they got tested repeatedly growing up because their magical powers didn’t show up until later in their teens. She was only test once with she was ten years old, no one thought to test her when she turns thirteen or even at sixteen? Also healing magic is powerful, so why is it made out to be weaker magic? I don’t like that she is being forced to help the council because “it’ll save her son”. I understand why it’s that way but I wish there was a different route. Also, the council says that her son wasn’t on the list of magical people they wanted to talk to, but yet he was approached by a council representative.

On another note I do like how Daryn and Shannon relationship is progressing. I do believe that part of their “need” to be physical with each other is stimming from the bond they share, I also believe that if she was ran out of town they would’ve ended up together ether way.

I really enjoyed this book. This book has a few of my favorite tropes: obsession, Stalking, and a secret society. While I read Dark Society, it doesn’t rank highly on my reading list.

The story follows Lilith and Colter. It starts with Colter’s indoctrination into “the Veil.” where Colter is wearing a ghost mask, and stops her from something really bad happening to her. After that night, she becomes obsessed with the ghost face. Later, they learn that their parents are set to marry. Soon, his obsession kicks in fast. While he was raised to be an executioner for the veil. She is raised to trick men into giving her money or doing whatever she wanted.

Colter’s father, if you can call him that, is the head of the Head. He tried to beat Colter’s heart out of him, so that he could have a cold, unquestioning, killing machine. Even through he tried, he failed in do so.

Lilith’s and Colter’s dynamic is very intense. He wanted nothing to do with her and truthfully wanted her gone. She hated him because of how her treated her and would play on her worst insecurities. Colter’s obsession with her took hold as soon as their parents were set to marry at a family meal, while Lilith’s journey was different, she resisted him at for most of the book, and it wasn’t until their kiss much later in the book that she felt the sparks fly.

I can say that the cult plot was really good. I will say the fist half of the book had a lot going on. There was a large cast that made it get a little confusing at times for me .

I look forward to reading more about this universe, if the author chose to keep the universe going.
