  • Book Review of Stake by Kel Bruem

    I need to state before getting into this review that I was given this book through Booksprout. Now that has been stated, I can now get into the book review. There are going to be spoilers in this review.

    Patrick, The MMC, is the head of the Boston Unusualities Society, is asked to come mentor a rogue nest of teen fanglings. These fanglings where turned by a ghoul. Patrick has been tasked with trying to figure out how and why these teens where turned. While he is staying in the village of ashbourne he must train them to control their overwhelming powers and get them ready for the vampire society. If he fails the Queen of all vampires, Madame Laveau will take care of them herself. He is forced to work with Rye Amato. She is a lawyer, who has gained the respect of the fanglings. Since she walked into the hotel, Patrick has had a hard time not fixating on her. While he is unearthing the strangeness that is hidden with in the village of Ashbourne he is unable to focus on them because of Rye’s entrancing beauty. With the unknown deadline fastly approaching, Patrick is trying to figure out if he should follow his heart or his duty. Truthfully, he wants to find away to follow both. 

    Rye, The FMC, is a strong human Lawyer, has been asked to help train the fanglings and as well as find out what’s different about this village. She is also drawn to this brooding, grumpy vampire. While, he is throwing his weight around, she holds her ground and doesn’t bend under his pressure. She has gained the respect of the fanglings and they go to her when they are having issues. She may not be vampire but she is closest thing to them. 

    While they are trying to figure out what’s going on they find someone, who is someone important in the village, that can withstand completions. We don’t find out much about the town or the fanglings because the book is mainly focused on the building tension between these two. I enjoyed the spiciness and the build-up to the spice. I can’t wait to find out more about the fanglings and what’s up with this damn village.

  • Book Review of Scarlet and Sapphire by Kevin Kalu

    I need to state before getting into this review that I was given this book through Booksprout. Now that has been stated, I can now get into the book review. There maybe spoilers in this review.

    I listened to this book on Audible. It was a short listen, lasting 3 hours and 13 minutes. Which I think lends to the issue that this book feels rushed. I enjoy reading Fantasy. Truthfully, it feels like three stories mashed into one book.

    The production of this book is good, but the story fell flat. There was so much going on that it was hard to keep up with. The book has likable characters and a good story. I just wish that the story were longer and into more parts.

    There isn’t much I can say about this book.

  • Book Review of The Mafia Protector’s Surprise Heir by Erin Rae

    I need to state before getting into this review that I was given this book through Booksprout. Now that has been stated, I can now get into the book review. There are going to be spoilers in this review.

    So, this is a short read. It’s roughly 175 pages. It’s a good book, kind of predictive, but still good. I do have a lot of questions left over though. For starters how did she know who she was looking for at the beginning of the book? Had she seen him there before? Was she just looking for that type of men? Was it four years or five years or six years in the gap? All three where stated in the book. Also how did they find her? Who was really after her? We were told it was a rival Mafia Family but why would that family be asking for 5 million dollars?

    I can say that Francesco is written as an extreme protector. He was hired by Marlena’s father soon after they had their one night stand. How does one get hired to protect the Don’s only daughter? How did she not know about a bodyguard following her around for the time gap in the book? How did someone not make it through his “protection” while he wasn’t there? He had to sleep and eat at some point. It’s kind of hard to believe that no one tried to get her when he wasn’t around.

    Even with all through questions it was still a good read. Not as spicy as I thought it would be, but it’s still spicy. I guess with a lot of the dark romances I have been reading I thought this book would a darker but truthfully it was good without being dark.

  • Book Review of Swipe Right on Fate by Roxie Ray

    I need to state before getting into this review that I was given this book through Booksprout. Now that has been stated, I can now get into the book review. There are going to be spoilers in this review.

    I truly thought that it would be a cute Rom-Com with a supernatural twist. I understand that hearing you’ve needed to change who you are to fit in and your unable to it. I also understand that having a different set of genes makes it hard for someone to fit in.

    The MMC, Rowan, has been told that he doesn’t fit the vampire image. He’s to pale because when he was a human he was an albino. He also doesn’t dress in the vampire image, the Gothic style. The coven treats him differently to his face than they do behind his back. He is an outcast within his coven. I don’t know how the world of vampires work in this world but couldn’t he just find another coven? But none the less he is were he is.

    The FMC, Naomi, is an outcast in the shifter world because she isn’t able to shift into an animal. Which according to the story in the past those who couldn’t shift where either exiled or killed. No one knows what causes this to happen.

    So, I guess that makes them both outcasts. Both Rowan and Naomi have huge self image problems. Naomi doesn’t see herself in a good way because she is unable to shift and in a shifter pack that is everything. I find it fucked up that her brothers calls her Otto or Otto-Roboto. It’s even worse that her mother calls her Noms most likely knowing that bullies called her that in school. Which leans towards her having a self image problem.

    Now onto the sex sences. There wasn’t any build up for me. Yes the scenes where okay, they didn’t do anything for me, but I think that has a lot to do with there wasn’t much build up towards them, they kind of just happened. The story writing was good but these scenes kind of fell flat. I do like insta-love stories but with those type of stories they spend time getting to know each-other with tension.

  • Book Review of Their Princess by Anja Barrons

    I need to state before getting into this review I was given an ARC through Booksprout. Now with that being stated I can now get into the book review.

    I also need to say that I haven’t not read the first four book in the ridge mc series and I feel that reading them isn’t necessarily needed it might help understand some of the characters. I’ll be going back and reading them sometime soon. 

    This story is a spicy why choose romance that combines mafia and a MC club. She does this my an arranged marriage between the Mafia princess and the VP of the MC. Don Parisi, Adelina’s Father, is basicly selling his oldest daughter because he wants to get his fingers into all the pieces of the pie. When Adelina gets to meet her “husban” for the first time her uncle comes along to act on her behalf because a mafia woman is to be seen and not heard. Though I feel as if he has some feeling for her that someone of her family shouldn’t have. The thing is Adelina isn’t the normal “Mafia Woman” she makes sure that her snark and feistiness. I love that she doesn’t just fall in line all the time. She pushes back in some ways. Her “husban” is a complete jerk, I don’t like that he has no issue with flaunting the “club bunnies” in her face. I like one of the guys in the MC, named Graff. He is a tatto artist and is a lot gentler towards her than everyone else in the MC. I can completely understand why Adelina is drawn towards him. Though in this world they need to grab and hold on with everything that they have because, with the cartel joining the mix there is so much drama and danger all around them. I can say that I am not to happy about the cliffhanger in this book but it makes me want to read the next book so, it does it’s job.
